Excuses are a way to avoid responsibility for your actions and protect your feelings. But they also prevent you from taking control of your actions. Before competing, accept responsibility for your effort, attitude, and decisions. Commit to calling all in and, not matter what happens, you won’t make excuses for today's performance.

If something goes wrong, don't blame conditions, officials, equipment, or luck. These excuses may make you feel better, but they won’t help you perform better. Instead of excuses, ask yourself, "What can I do now?" Then do it.
