Sync Performance, the manufacturer of quality ski racing apparel, and Dr. Jim Taylor, the noted ski racing mental coach, are excited to announce their partnership to offer SYNC Team athletes a comprehensive, structured, and consistent mental training program for the 2023-24 season to support their competitive (and life) goals. It’s been dubbed, Get Your Mind in SYNC.
The SYNC Team consists of 12 talented and hard-working young ski racers from across the U.S. and Canada who have demonstrated the ability to excel on and off the hill. Each member of the SYNC Team was selected based on their previous season’s performances, FIS points (if old enough), and application.
The objective of the SYNC/Taylor partnership is to provide SYNC Team members with the much-neglected dimension of training their minds the way they train their bodies.
Dr. Jim is well-known in the ski racing world. He graduated from Burke Mtn. Academy (where he achieved a top-20 national ranking) and Middlebury College (where he was a member of its varsity ski team and captained the team to its highest NCAA finish, 5th place, in years). He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Colorado where, as a graduate student, he was a member of an NCAA Championship-winning team. Over the years, Dr. Jim has worked with the USST, most of the top junior race programs in the U.S., and many World Cup and Olympic racers. You can learn about his story here.
The seasonal-long mental-training program developed by Dr. Jim, that will involve weekly remote sessions, will introduce Sync Team members to the essential mental “muscles,” mental tools, and attitudes necessary to get the most out of your training and to ski consistently fast in the most important races of the year. Dr. Jim will offer useful information and practical tools to ensure that Sync Team athletes’ minds are as strong as their bodies when they slide into the starting gate this winter.
