As some of you know, I have written extensively about public education in America and am a vocal critic of No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top.
One of the most misrepresented findings in public education these days is that American students’ scores on achievement tests place them in the middle of the pack when compared to other developed countries. As I have written about before, these results are misinterpreted such that apples are being compared to oranges.
I recently came across a video that debunks five of the most commonly held myths about public education in America. It is eye opening in two ways. First, American students are actually doing just fine when compared to students in other countries when apples are compared to apples. Second, many of the reasons used to explain America’s purported problems with public education are just plain wrong.
