Thanks for your comment, Jim. I feel the same way. But we do still have some power. The worst thing we can do is feel despair and give up. Then we really lose.

I think the key is to, as they say, act locally. We are largely helpless on the national stage, but we can have an impact locally. And as more people band together, we become a force for change.

Just don't give up!

Dr. Taylor,

I feel totally powerless in today's political world. I've voted in every election since 1972 and in the first decade or so felt like my vote counted. Things began to change for me when the bitterness and polarization that encompasses politics took root not so many years ago. I can't stomach any quotes that come out of Washington, DC by either party and will not take the time to listen or read anything anymore. Why you may ask? I feel it is a complete and utter waste of time as we're still living in such acrimonious times with no meaningful debate at all. It comes down to who can scream the loudest and plant just enough ambiguity about a person that that becomes the issue, i.e. damage control.

I may be colored by my age but always had great hope that by the time I reached my 60s that there would actually be equal opportunity for all Americans but sadly that is not the case. It's a deep loss I feel and not one I take lightly, sir. I honestly feel that a "regular" person is impotent in today's decision-making in this country.

Sincerely,
Jim Negri
