Thanks for your thoughts, Chuck. A sentiment that I have heard from several ski-racing parents. I never intended to convey that the costs of ski racing were easy to bear. They are, unfortunately, the most significant obstacles to entry into the sport (aside from needing a mountain and snow).

As the ski-racing child of parents who saw the immense value that ski racing could bring to a young person's development, I saw first hand the choices my parents made to support my ski-racing involvement (as well as my sister's for a shorter time). That commitment included all of those items that you mentioned plus six years of tuition at Burke Mtn. Academy (I PG'd for two years) and eight years of summer camp in Europe and Argentina.

I have tremendous respect for those parents who make similar sacrifices to give their children such incredible experiences.

You make it sound so simple to supply the coaching ($1,500), season pass ($1,000) travel and lodging ($7,000/season), equipment ($2,000) and race fees ($1,000) and camps ($2,500). I have two kids (J5's) so that's times two. I better love this sport as much as they do. The money part is killing the sport.

I did love the article but you did make the money part sound so easy. Have you seen the economy lately?
